How to transform self-doubt into confidence


We all experience doubts. Self-doubts can creep up on us all the time. But did you know that you can turn self-doubts into confidence?

Sometimes we need to fall to learn how to get up. We need to experience certain things in life to make us stronger and more resilient. Life is one big learning experience and when we learn how to go with the flow more, we can take our lessons learned from unpleasant experiences and use them to avoid experiencing them again.

Self-doubt occurs when we don’t know our true self and our abilities. To increase your confidence and overcome harmful self-doubts, you need to start by looking at yourself and really getting to know who you really are.

How to find your true self

To help you learn who your true self really is, find a quiet and distraction-free place and do some journaling or self-reflection on questions like:

  • What are your top 5-10 values? (you can do a google search to get examples of values you can pick from)
  • What are you passionate about?
  • What are you good at?
  • Who are you right now? (not who you want to be)

Some people like doing this exercise by writing down their answers, creating a piece of art, or meditation while reflecting on their answers to these questions. Do it however feels the most natural to you.

You can also ask others for feedback. Ask them what they value most about their relationship with you. Ask them about the key traits that they admire about you. Ask them what they feel your character strengths are.

Once you have a better idea of who you are, seek out the tools and support to allow your true self to shine through in your everyday life. Armed with your newly rediscovered self-awareness, you’ll notice your negative self-doubts getting quieter, and your naturally confident self coming to the surface.
